Delta i enkät om Ojämlikheter i maternell psykisk ohälsa – ett Europeiskt perspektiv

23 april 2026

The Standing Committee on Standards of Care and Position Statements has launched a project on Inequities in Preconceptional and Perinatal Mental Health Care in Europe. The first step in this project is to collect data, which will then be analysed to create a position statement or other related academic work.

We would like to collect data from gynaecologists & obstetricians of all levels (specialists and residents), so we ask that you please share with your societies and ask that they distribute so we may collect the maximum amount of responses possible. The deadline for responding is Friday 15 May 2026.

Perinatal mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, and trauma-related conditions, affect up to 20% of women during pregnancy and the postpartum period. These conditions are linked to adverse outcomes such as premature birth, low birthweight, impaired maternal-infant bonding, and long-term developmental risks in children. Increasingly, the preconception period is also recognized as a critical window for identifying and addressing mental health issues that could impact reproductive decision-making and maternal well-being.

Despite growing awareness of perinatal mental health, inequities in care persist across Europe.
While patient experiences have been studied extensively, the perspectives of healthcare professionals (HCPs) somehow remain underexplored. Understanding the attitudes, knowledge gaps, and systemic barriers faced by HCPs is essential for designing effective, equitable care pathways. By capturing their views, this study aims to illuminate where interventions should be focused to support both professionals and patients. This is particularly urgent in the context of integrated care models, where cross-sector collaboration is needed but often hindered by systemic silos and limited training. Standardized policies, professional training, and cross-sector collaboration are key to improving outcomes for mothers and children across the continent.
