personality/leadership is an important issue in all centras and som kind of training is performed. Its also common that students meet with one specialist and follow her/his work already from the beginning of med.school all the way through the education. |

the above frame is only showing the areas covered in medical school but the exact time spent for each one varies between universities. |

|
for a medical degree it is necessary to pass the national test, which is an oral practical and written test. If you fail, you can try again but failing over three times demand special care. |
Medical office program

18-21 months depending on the hospital to which you apply. Each hopital advertise their own office-posts and formal application has to be made. |

The program involves at least: |
9 months internal medicine and surgery (ortopedics, general surgery and anaestesiology)
3 months psychiatry
6 months general practice in an out patient clinic.

The Swedish program for trainees in obstetrics & gynecology
The mainly aims for the trainee are to get knowledge and skills in diagnostics and treatment of normal and pathological pregnancies, normal and pathological deliverys and physiolocical courses, diseases, malformations, injuries and function disturbances in female organs of reproduction
When you have passed the examination of general practising (18-21 months), you are free to apply for a trainee programme in which speciality you want and wherever you want in Sweden
It is up to the hospital and head of the department to decide who they want to employ for 5 years ahead-at least
Examination of specialists
The free examination is done in three formes: written, practically/orally and finally with a presentation of an examination paper
The trainee is not obliged to performe the examination after the trainee programme
Supervision
Every trainee should have a personal tutor-not for showing practical moments- but for discussing problems in the trainee program, ethical dilemmas
For instructions of daily work the trainee should be able to use any of the older specialists to reach recommended skills
The aims should be attained after 5 years of full time work
How do the trainee know when to apply for specialists competence?
- The head of the department decides when the trainee is able to apply
- The head of the department should continously check the trainees skill and educational level
- The performed operations and practical moments must be registered by the trainee him/herself
Salary
The median salary for a trainee in obstetrics/gynecoloy is today 29.700 skr per month (3200Euro)
Side-education
The trainee is free to choose side-education at other departments during the trainee programme

About 1500 are registred as gynecol/obstet
Of these nearly 250 are trainees
20 percent of the trainees are men
The demand for new trainees is high as the retirement of gynecologists is greater than new recruitment
